movies and tv microsoft appMicrosoft may be working to bring its Windows-based Movies & TV app to iOS devices, according to Windows Central.

The app lets users browse and play movies and TV shows purchased from Microsoft's Store, but it's only available on Windows 10, Xbox, and Windows 10 Mobile, and Microsoft is apparently eager to bring it over to rival platforms to give consumers more of a reason to buy from its catalog of video content.

While most people have moved over to streaming content via services like Netflix, there is still a whole lot of content that isn't immediately, or ever, available to stream. Lots of people buy digital movies and TV content, and Microsoft has a huge store that a lot of people seemingly ignore or don't know about because there is no mobile companion app for their phone.

But it appears Microsoft is now finally working on bringing its Movies & TV service to iOS or Android, according to sources familiar with the matter.

Microsoft killed off its Groove Music streaming service last year, which led many to assume the same fate would befall its Movies & TV service.

However, since the death of Windows 10 mobile in October, Microsoft has seen fit to bring over some popular apps like Edge and Windows Launcher to iOS and Android, and it looks as if the company counts Movies & TV in that select list.

That said, sources told Windows Central not to expect the iOS and Android version of Movies & TV anytime soon, since the app is still a work in progress.

Good move. Idk why Apple arent bringing their services to competing plattforms like this. I would love Apple Music on PlayStation for example.

Because, unlike Microsoft, Apple has a hardware mobile platform that thrives.

Let me guess, it comes to iOS, has a lot of DRM restrictions, no compatibility to any TV box and AirPlay is suppressed. App will be pulled in 2-3 years.

This icon is offensive to the graphic design profession. I can’t see any iOS user with taste putting such a hideous icon on their phone!

Yeh but Apple is in the business of making money.
By offering services to other platforms they can slowly bring people into the eco system.
I would love to be able to watch the files and tv shows I watch on other non apple devices.

Apple still makes the most money on hardware sales. Their services are to attract people to their hardware. Granted they do make some money from the services as well but their CORE business is hardware.

If they had to spend money I would prefer them to make their services available to ALL their WORLDWIDE customers first before worrying about other platforms.
Apple News exists in only 3 countries.
iTunes TV Shows? Same thing. Very few countries have them.

Anyway, this has gone a bit off topic. But the reason Microsoft is doing this is that they are a SERVICES company first and foremost so they need their services available on all platforms. Apple doesn't.

I like the new Microsoft since Ballmer left. They are now more open and cross platform and products seem better. A needed step that Ballmer refused to do - their money is with applications/services, not the OS, so they need to spread out, especially in mobile.

That said - I will stick with the Apple ecosystems since I live in a 100% Apple household and even work is mostly Apple - but good for everyone who needs both platforms for whatever reasons
