Apple Pay Coming to Quiznos, Smashburger, and Other Restaurants With Integrated Loyalty Program

Punchh today announced that Quiznos, Smashburger, MOD Pizza, and select other restaurant brands in the United States will soon accept Apple Pay integrated with its cloud-based loyalty program for customers.

At participating restaurants, Apple Pay users will supposedly receive a push notification at checkout prompting them to add the restaurant's loyalty program to Apple's Wallet app. Once added, customers will automatically begin earning points and receiving specialized offers, which can be redeemed during future visits.

A spokesperson for Punchh said existing members of a restaurant's loyalty program can add it to their Apple Wallet as an NFC pass.

When a customer taps on the push notification, she will be presented with a form with pre-populated enrollment data, and can immediately enroll, according to Punchh. The customer can also opt-in to automatically select the "card" next time, and receive the pass in the Wallet app on iPhone.

Punchh's clients include more than 85 restaurant chains, such as Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf, El Pollo Loco, Moe's Southwest Grill, Pieology, Quiznos, and Smashburger, but it doesn't appear that Apple Pay support will be rolling out to every chain.

Punchh said Apple Pay eliminates the need to download a participating restaurant's loyalty app to start earning rewards or points. Restaurants will supposedly still be able to track items that customers purchase, however, including how much they paid, but no payment or personal information will be collected.

STOP EVERYTHING.

WAIT.

Quizno's is still alive?! WHERE?!

I just hope these places train their staff to exercise some patience when customers attempt to use their Apple Pay. And I hope Apple Pay catches on more places so those of us using other forms of contactless payments that have always worked can do so in peace.

My husband uses Samsung Pay which usually works pretty much anywhere...IF the staff gives it half a chance. Sometimes he doesn't even get one chance before the clerk actually throws themselves across or flings an arm over their precious sensor, shrieking "We don't take that Apple Pay here".

He has to grit his teeth and say it's Samsung pay.

And after the clerk partially retreats, glaring all the while, it will then sometimes take a couple of passes to get properly scanned and THAT freaks out the clerk and they shriek some more. "See I told you Apple Pay doesn't work here." They don't even apologize for their bizarre freakouts when it does work and the transaction in fact concludes. We just hear a sullen "Oh, nobody told me Apple Pay works here."

"It's. Not. Apple Pay."

If these people don't even know what Apple Pay is and is NOT, I can't imagine the confusion and displeasure at registers when Apple pay is supposed to work, but a confused customer needs assistance to get it to work for some weird reason.

Take note Target. You can do the same thing, have customers sign up for your Cartwheel program at checkout.

I thought Quiznos went out of bidness. I know they didn't last long in Melbourne back when I used to work there...

when I had to walk 20 miles in the snow.
Backwards.
On my hands.
When it was illegal to use kangaroo pouches as transportation (koalas and kookaburras were ok, though).

Target expressed they have no interest in Apple Pay and it's clear they're not going use Apple Pay, aside for online purchases through the application.

But after their breaching incident back in 2014, I think it would have been logical for them to use contactless payments.

Target probably won't move unless they see a negative impact on their bottom line. Their digital sales were up in 2016. That's why they accept Apple Pay through the app. Whatever they can do to reach more digital sales, they'll do. Unless they feel Apple Pay will drive more foot traffic, they're not going to move on the stores. Good/bad? Who knows. Time will tell.
