Apple is offering up to six months of Apple Music for free to Shazam users, in what looks like a limited-time deal for the holdays.

First spotted by Macworld UK, the trial offer currently available appears to vary in length depending on where you're located and whether you've redeemed a free trial of ‌Apple Music‌ in the past.

However, if you're in the U.S., Canada, or the United Kingdom, then you should be able to get at least a month of free access out of it – and perhaps more – even if you've used an ‌Apple Music‌ free trial before. Here's how it works.

  1. Download the free Shazam app for iOS from the App Store.
  2. Launch the app on your iPhone or iPad.
  3. Swipe right to enter the Library screen, or tap the Library icon in the top-left corner of the screen.

  4. Tap the Try Now pane offering a free trial of ‌Apple Music‌ for a 'Limited Time.'
  5. Tap the Try it Free button.
  6. You'll be switched to the ‌App Store‌ to redeem a pre-entered code. Tap Redeem, and you'll be notified of the length of your free trial and the date from which you'll make your first monthly payment if you continue with the subscription.

If you're wary of over-running the free trial, put a date in your diary to remind you when to cancel it. For steps on how to cancel an ‌Apple Music‌ subscription, click here.

lol - give away as many free trials as you want, Apple - it won't stop Apple Music being total crap. I gave it yet another go recently and canceled the trial after 24 hours. Airplay to Sonos speakers was crap; for example playback stopped if I was looking at a video in Twitter - that doesn't happen with Spotify connect. Content all over the shop and in different apps, some of which make no sense. With Spotify, you open the one app and you've got music, podcast and audiobooks at your fingertips (Apple wouldn't be able to change me separately for listening to stand-up comedy unless it was in a different app, I suppose).

I just can't see anything development on the app. Who TF is in charge of it?
Odd ... I like it.

He lost me after the first word “lol”. People who the start with that has a losing argument
It certainly isn't very compelling.

Companies count on customers forgetting the date they have to cancel before paying.

To me, it's not worth trying to keep track of these free offers.
You can cancel it immediately after getting it and still have the free trial and it won't charge you. And honestly ... you have an iPhone. Just set a reminder for when the trial ends. This isn't rocket science. That's why we have phones ... to keep track of things we might forget. o_O

I assume this only works if you’re not currently subscribed to Apple Music, because it’s not working for me (no Try Now button). Shazam weg!

I just set a reminder for the day before it renews to cancel as soon as I set up the subscription.

No “ try it now free” button showed up. Maybe because I already use it? Well, thanks for the waste of time, MR. Shazam deleted.
You could always cancel your existing sub and then see if it works - heard a couple of people now having success with this method.
