It’s not really the second-best price. It was available at 249 on black Friday and then 259 on cyber Monday.

No it doesn't. I have an iPad 9 now, which has the A13 so just one year older CPU than this. And it's horrible now, terribly laggy. Have to restart if frequently as it cannot really handle iPadOS 18, keyboard is almost impossible to use in some apps/websites due to extreme lag.
Everything reloads all the time and it takes forever to do most things. Extremely frustrating.
My wife has an iPad 9 that exhibits none of this behavior. It sounds like yours has more issues than a (relatively) old processor.

I have the tenth gen, though with 256GB. Best portable media consumption device I’ve ever had. Also perfect for business travel, where I typically need access only to email and my employer’s web-based CRM. And that means I don’t need to lug the large and heavy Surface Pro laptop they gave me, which itself can convert to the world’s heaviest, least ergonomic tablet.

Apple nailed it with the iPad. It fits exactly where Jobs said it would in the product and usage line. And this is a great deal for one.

Thought about getting an iPad for my parents, so it's a bit unfortunate that there was no update for the holiday season on this model. I can't get past buying the A14 in late 2024 when they're on iPhone 15 now...

Probably just me and they most likely wouldn't notice, but can't bite on the deal 😆

I feel a little weird pointing out the very obvious, but: the iPad 10th Gen isn’t the iPad 9th Gen. You’re judging the performance of the iPad 10th Gen based your experience with the iPad 9th Gen.

Also, I think there might just be something wrong with your iPad 9th Gen (something other than the processor being a little underpowered compared to a current-day A-series chip). What you described is not typical behavior.
