Apple Music Adds Playlists for iOS 18's New 'Music Haptics' Feature

As previously announced, iOS 18 includes a new accessibility feature called Music Haptics. When this feature is turned on, the iPhone's Taptic Engine will tap and vibrate to match the audio of a song playing in Apple Music, Apple Music Classical, Shazam, and supported third-party apps when the device is connected to a Wi-Fi or cellular network.

Apple says that Music Haptics provides a new way for anyone to experience music on the iPhone, including listeners who are deaf or hard of hearing.

Apple first announced Music Haptics when it previewed iOS 18's new accessibility features in May, and the feature is now available globally with iOS 18's release today. Starting today, Apple Music has a new section dedicated to Music Haptics, with new playlists available called Haptics Beats, Haptics Bass, Haptics Vibrations, and Haptics Hits.

Music Haptics is supported on the iPhone 12 series and later, excluding the third-generation iPhone SE, on iOS 18 and later. The feature can be turned on in the Settings app under Accessibility → Music Haptics.

I wonder by how much this reduces the advertised hours of audio playback the iPhone can do. ;)

This feature is interesting, but I just don't get it. When too much is happening in a song it just feels like vibrations, I can't really make out any distinct instruments from the vibrations. This would be really cool with more Taptic engines acting like separate instruments, but as it is now I don't understand it.

For Sweet Child O Mine I wouldn’t know it by the way the haptics are working. It’s kind of odd and doesn’t really follow the music. I wonder what it’s translating to the Taptic Engine.
It seems to randomly jump around the different instruments on some songs and not really follow anything.

Ironically bad with Cum On Feel the Noize - especially the line "So you think my singing's not in time"... the vibrations definitely aren't!

The Human League though... wow. Tainted Love by Soft Cell. Sweet Dreams (Are Made of This). Tears for Fears. Relax by Frankie Goes to Hollywood. This feature was 100% made for synthpop.

I would be just worried that all screws come loose after 500 hours of music vibrating. New irrational fear unlocked.
