iPhone 16 Pro Rumored to Break This 7-Year Streak at Apple

The upcoming iPhone 16 Pro might break a seven-year streak at Apple.

Taiwanese research firm TrendForce today reported that the iPhone 16 Pro will start at $1,099 in the U.S. with 256GB of storage, whereas the iPhone 15 Pro starts at $999 with 128GB of storage. If this information is accurate, it means that the iPhone 16 Pro will cost more for customers who otherwise would have opted for a 128GB configuration.

Apple has offered at least one Pro model or equivalent tier of the iPhone at a starting price of $999 in the U.S. since the iPhone X was released in 2017, so the iPhone 16 Pro would break a longstanding streak held by the company.

The starting prices of each model in the U.S.:

  • iPhone X: $999
  • iPhone XS: $999
  • iPhone 11 Pro: $999
  • iPhone 12 Pro: $999
  • iPhone 13 Pro: $999
  • iPhone 14 Pro: $999
  • iPhone 15 Pro: $999
  • iPhone 16 Pro: $1,099?

We already saw a similar change happen last year with the iPhone 15 Pro Max, which starts at $1,199 in the U.S. with 256GB of storage. Previously, the iPhone 14 Pro Max started at $1,099 with 128GB of storage. On social media, customers argued about whether Apple dropping a storage tier represented a price increase or not.

Apple is expected to unveil the iPhone 16 series during its special event on Monday.
