I meant, children shouldn't have tablets and smart phones at all. The harm is clear.
Not even travel is a good excuse in my view. There are activity books for that purpose.
You are welcome to your opinion with your children. It is all about proper time management and parental boundaries.

This would be a good present for a younger child or senior who wouldn’t need much space.

You sound like my parents. I’m in my 30s. I missed out on culturally relevant things because my parents said video games and being online were harmful.

No disrespect to you but I absolutely hate that viewpoint.
There are recent studies showing children under the age of 2 are harmed by using digital screens/tablets. But that's because their brains are still forming a lot of basic connections and associations at that age. It's probably doing harm having them digest all the digital representations of real, physical things and offering to let them manipulate them in such a limited manner, touching against the flat surface.

I wouldn't advise giving really small kids a tablet to play with or watch things on. But that's very different than parents who thought video games were evil and refused to let a teen or pre-teen enjoy them.

I'm not against fun, or even games. But good parenting is very difficult, and it's far too easy to stick an adhd machine in front of their developing brains.
Also, I'm willing to bet the only reason you feel you missed out on anything, is precisely because of the internet.
More from going over to friends houses and not knowing how to play specific games because my parents never let me. And guess what? I got made fun of for it.

I’ll counter banning everything is just as harmful as not taking action. You don’t have to be a dictator to your child.
