Apple Announces 'Tap to Pay on iPhone' Now Available in Canada

Apple has announced that "Tap to Pay on iPhone" is available in Canada starting today through select payment platforms in the country.

Apple Tap to Pay iPhone
Tap to Pay on iPhone allows businesses to accept contactless payments on an iPhone, with no additional point-of-sale hardware like a Square Terminal required. The feature allows customers to pay by simply tapping their iPhone or Apple Watch, contactless credit card or debit card, or other contactless payment option on the merchant's iPhone. Payment is securely completed using the same NFC technology behind Apple Pay.

Businesses in Canada can offer Tap to Pay on iPhone through iPhone apps offered by Adyen, Moneris, Stripe, and Square. In the coming months, Apple said Aurus, Chase, Fiserv, and Helcim will also offer the feature in the country.

Apple said Tap to Pay on iPhone will be available at Apple Store locations across Canada, and at merchants such as Sephora, later this year.

Launched in 2022, Tap to Pay on iPhone is also available in the U.S., Australia, Brazil, France, Japan, the Netherlands, Taiwan, the U.K., and Ukraine.

As much as I am happy for this to come to Canada, I wonder how this is implemented already in the US. The iPhone is a very "personal" device and I'm curious how shop owners like a convenience store would address this. An iPhone reserved just for Tap to Pay ? Needs to be plugged in to be sure that it has enough battery?
I went to the Apple stores of USA and UK. Tap to pay by iPhone is implemented in the Apple stores of USA and UK.

I work in the US but live in Canada when I’m able to work remotely. I have an Apple Card saved to my phone that taps just fine in the US and Canada and always has. Is this something different?

This hasn’t been available in Canada??
People seem to be confusing ApplePay and/or contactless payments. You’ve been able to do this for years. This new feature allows iPhones to receive payments via tap. So a hotdog stand could accept your Apple Pay payment with you tapping on their iPhone to charge you. Previously, they had to get a Square terminal or something like it to accept payments. Now, it’ll all work on their iPhone alone.
