Apple's doing everything it can to move some units. Interesting times.
Everything other than speccing them better at the various price points to create a better value proposition

Is that honestly even an issue? When one gets an iMac they get it for the screen and the chip. What charging cable is used for the keyboard and mouse seems so trivial.
You may be one of those people who simply burn their money for fun. Others pay attention to what they spend their money on because they only have limited resources.

Mouse and keyboard together cost 180$. Which is priced into the iMac. So I pay almost 200$ for products that are outdated. As you say, sometimes unusable. And need their own cable.

But we can also use the MacBook Pro as an example. Do you think Apple put the HDMI back in for fun?
No, sales have suffered. No matter how often fans said you don't need it anyway.

With the iMac you buy a complete package. And that is outdated. Doesn't justify the price.

8 GB of RAM only is still a joke. Wake me up when they have a deal on a real iMac with 16 GB of RAM.

Hard to believe that $1700 computers with 8GB of RAM and 512GB storage aren't selling like hotcakes.

This is an Amazon sale, not an Apple sale.

Amazon ≠ Apple
This can't be happening without Apple. Probably a way to pretend there aren't any price reductions going on.

Either way if they were moving there wouldn't be any offers.

I mean, nobody in their right mind who knows any better or asks a family member or friend for purchasing advice would buy a $1700 machine in 2024 with only 8GB of memory. That is absurd. It's no wonder they are dropping prices.

I thought about buying one of these for my kids on refurb but the value proposition still isn't there. I recently installed a standing desk with a walnut top that I made myself in a common family area so it can be shared with my kids (I've programmed in heights for them) when they start to need real computer access beyond their iPad, which my daughter will likely need next school year as she enters 5th grade and starts writing papers. She is also getting into photography since I gave her an old Sony RX100 camera, she likes playing around in Photoshop and Illustrator, and I want to teach her some programming. I think the better option is a Mac mini with an external 4K display that I can also use to plug in to my MBP when I go upstairs to take my standing break for a few hours in the afternoon.

I would consider a refurbed M3 10c with 24GB memory for $1609 if I could use it as an external display for my much more powerful M3 Max 14" MBP when I'm using the standing desk. This deal isn't bad and is what I would recommend to anyone looking to get an iMac that they're going to use longer than a couple years, and since it's a desktop it's much cheaper to just get a Samsung T7 SSD for cheap on Amazon if you need to add storage: https://www.apple.com/shop/product/G19P1LL/A/Refurbished-24-inch-iMac-Apple-M3-Chip-with-8-Core-CPU-and-10-Core-GPU-Purple?fnode=7209a3de46aed24aa70a42b222f756924a786b9faab99fb9a40adf5169e60063d9d5e49bb9bf4db2a690a672c7acd847fa6a746fa0d867545feeadc0c2a1a6c2128bac6e06caac15f06ad915fb8e749a
