Latest Apple Ad Highlights iPhone 15 Plus Battery

Apple today posted an ad specifically focused on the iPhone 15 Plus, the larger version of the standard iPhone 15 model. In the spot, Apple focuses on the battery life of the device, which is equipped with a higher capacity battery than the iPhone 15 due to its larger size.

In the humorous ad, a man takes a video of a child who is attempting to break a wood plank with his hand. The attempts are unsuccessful well into the night, and the iPhone 15 Plus battery is able to record for hours. "Battery goes on and on," reads the tagline at the end of the video.

This is in fact the second iPhone 15 Plus battery ad that Apple has uploaded in recent months. The first spot featured a sad receptacle that was missing being able to charge the iPhone 15 Plus.

According to Apple's technical specifications page, the iPhone 15 Plus is able to provide up to 26 hours of offline video playback and 100 hours of audio playback.

Sadly the battery life and capacity could be so much better in 2024. Heck look at the Apple Watch! Should be able to get a week of use before charges! But that would take away their yearly “selling point” for people to constantly buy these phones year over year .
Please elaborate, do you have a new battery chemistry or a dramatic battery saving technology for screens and processors? Did you bring enough for the class?

I'm pretty amazed by the battery life on my 15 pro max. I limit it to 80% and end up with 45-50% at the end of the day. I can see why Apple added the 80% limit feature with this release!

If I charged to 100% I could easily go two days on a charge.

What is likely to happen in the next 10 years or so is the introduction of new battery chemistries and technologies... its one major aspect of R&D at a variety of consumer and industrial goods manufacturers.. a phone that has a power source that lasts a week (didn't my old Nokia do that?? lol) would be the thing that would sell a load of new phones... and also ensure they last longer (longevity, without needing a battery replacement in 2 to 3 years).

Li-ion and its range of chemistries as they are used today in products are performing way better than what they could do 10 or 15 years ago. Remember when MacBook batteries had ~300 expected cycles before dropping below 80% capacity. Its now at ~1000 before hitting 80%... but age related degradation is still an issue and a lot of goods are still fully functional after years of use... except for a battery that is severely degraded.

It's a pity that, at that point, some companies, including apple obsolete your product at that moment and then you can't get an official battery replacement. But it could have years left of useful utility.

So here's hoping that in the next decade we see something happen to battery tech that is the equivalent of Apple Silicon "change". It wouldn't just benefit phones... but cars, home energy storage...

The apple watch runs an entirely different OS which is much less resource intensive than an iPhone. Not to mention the power hungry screens that iPhones have to power.
