DoorDash Working on Live Activities Support Ahead of Dynamic Island Expanding to All iPhone 15 Models

The latest version of the DoorDash app for iPhone contains code-level references to Live Activities, according to software researcher @aaronp613, suggesting that the app will soon widely support the feature. DoorDash already had a Live Activities toggle visible in the Settings app for a few months, but the feature does not appear to be functional yet.

Live Activities allows iPhone users to stay on top of real-time events right on the Lock Screen on any iPhone model compatible with iOS 16, and in the Dynamic Island on the iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max. Apple is expected to expand the Dynamic Island to all four iPhone 15 models set to be announced on Tuesday, September 12.

For the DoorDash app, Live Activities will enable users to more easily track the status of their food delivery order and the ETA at a glance. DoorDash competitor Uber Eats rolled out support for the feature worldwide in May.

Other popular apps that support Live Activities include the NBA and MLB apps for basketball and baseball games, Flighty for flight tracking, Citymapper for public transit, ParkMobile for parking, and CARROT Weather for weather forecasts. Google Maps also continues to work on Live Activities support after promising to offer the feature.

Good gosh, are people that lazy that they can't get their butts off the sofa and go get their own fast food or go to the supermarket?

Here's the point, I've made enough money to not have to do any manual labor... that includes operating a motor vehicle (i have a chauffeur for that), manually walking through the grocery store (servant), etc. I usually have them handle this, but sometimes I'm feeling generous and want to give them a break. In that case, DoorDash to the rescue. In addition, some items at places are DoorDash exclusive
I’m not fairly well off but I am not what I would consider poor either. I don’t have servants, but I use DoorDash occasionally. I’m sure the majority of their customers are just average people.

Finally support for this very cool feature is broadening. Its my favorite feature of iOS 16 besides the Lock Screen.

Surprised it's taken them this long. I would want my app to support the newest features as soon as possible to make it look more attractive.

I used to be a Doordash driver and it was a completely normal ratio of normal people to rich. Out of every 25 orders it was probably... 1 super rich, 5 wealthy looking, 19 normal people. And this was just the orders I accepted, and I usually denied deliveries for bad tips, so this is skewed. Many times grocery orders from Walmart or CVS would go to older folks who seemed to have trouble getting out of the house. Many seemed to be parents who didn't want to leave the house to get takeout for their kids. I'm not really sure where the concept that this is some service for rich out of touch folks is coming from.

This being said, I have never once used Doordash as the customer. I don't mind picking up my own food.
