2021 iPad should be 199 at this point, and for the mini, I'm betting for a 7th gen in the fall with A17 or M2.

Again, hoping right with you for a 7. But I'm no stranger to iPad Mini getting ignored for years... and Apple seems to be having enough challenges with M2/M3 stuff to give the lowly Mini much love this year.

But I'll welcome it if it does show up. I love my Mini 6!

It been a Mini gets stuff before Air and then visa versa and now it’s mini turn again. The change to a M1 is a year old, so would be a M2, as the A17 is meant for IPhone 15. I did not mention pro motion just a faster refresh rate LCD panel.
Not going to happen.
First of all, Apple has never, not once, made a 90 Hz display. I don’t expect them to start now.
Secondly, the iPad mini has the A15, a much more efficient chip than the M2. Given that the iPad mini is super small, efficiency is everything. You’re not gonna get 10 hour battery life on an iPad mini with an M2 compared to an A15 or an A17, you’re just not. They would either have to bulk up the battery (and buy extension the iPad) by a lot, or severely underclock and restrict the M2. Remember, the current A15 already has a GPU core disabled on the current Mini, it’s already losing to the latest iPhones. It’s absolutely not going to get the M2.
Lastly, there has been no point in history where the iPad Mini has had internal advantages over the iPad Air.
The second generation iPad mini, and the first generation iPad Air were introduced at the same time in 2013… And shared identical specifications. Same CPU, same GPU, same screen resolution, same everything.
The next year, the iPad Air 2 got the A8X, the mini3 stuck with the A7.
Everything about the iPad mini 3 was identical to the previous, except for touch ID. So again, the air was ahead.
In 2015, the iPad mini got updated to the A8 (not the A8X) and a couple bumps here and there, but it still lags behind the air. And then both weren’t touched for four years.
When they both got updated at the same time in 2019, they again got identical specifications. The A12, pencil support, and improved storage options.
The next year, the mini got nothing, and the air got updated to the home buttonless design, the A14 and USB-C.
The mini later got all of this and the A15, while the air got the M1.
So again, either the specs have been identical, or the air has been ahead.
There is absolutely no historical precedent to what you are saying.
No iPhone, iPad or Mac has ever gotten 90 Hz, the iPad Air has never gotten a worse processor than the mini, and the iPad mini has always used mobile chips.

The iPad mini is 2 years old in Sept. original announcement ('https://www.apple.com/newsroom/2021/09/apple-unveils-new-ipad-mini-with-breakthrough-performance-in-stunning-new-design/').
The display seems the priority to update. Otherwise it would have sold a lot more then now. We shall see if Apple is more aggressive now or not. ;)
Again, it’s the second best selling iPad. The only thing it’s losing to is the cheaper iPad.
The iPads that have better displays and better processors… That’s not translating to more sales.

I have 3 iPads all different sizes. My mini 6 is my most used. Such a convenient sized iPad for weight, size, travel, GPS, communications and mostly consumption. I will welcome any advancement and will buy it on the spot!

Always tempted to pick up a mini when this sale hits, but I'm in the camp of holding out for the 7th gen with hopes for a much better screen.
