Eve Launches First Outdoor Floodlight Camera With HomeKit Secure Video

Eve Systems today announced the availability of its Eve Outdoor Cam, which is the first outdoor HomeKit-enabled floodlight camera that supports the HomeKit Secure Video feature.

First introduced at CES, the Eve Outdoor Cam is a floodlight cam that features a black metal frame and an opaque white glass for the lighting component, along with IP55 water and dust resistance. It features a 1080p camera with a 157 degree field of view, and it is able to be wall mounted with a three-axis hinge.

The Outdoor Cam works in the dark thanks to integrated infrared night vision that works up to 26 feet away, and it supports two-way communication through the built-in microphone and speaker.

‌HomeKit Secure Video‌ capabilities are included in iCloud+, which is priced starting at $0.99 per month. With ‌HomeKit Secure Video‌ support, the Eve Outdoor Cam can save 10 days of video, plus it is privacy focused and footage is fully encrypted regardless of whether you're viewing the camera footage locally or remotely using a home hub.

There are also useful AI detection features, so users can receive notifications when motion is detected, and through ‌‌HomeKit Secure Video‌‌, the camera can detect people, animals, vehicles, and package deliveries for tailored alerts.

The $0.99 per month 50GB ‌iCloud‌ plan supports one ‌HomeKit Secure Video‌ camera, while the 200GB plan priced at $2.99 per month supports up to five. With the highest-end 2TB ‌iCloud‌ plan priced at $9.99 per month, an unlimited number of ‌HomeKit Secure Video‌ cameras can be used. Footage stored from a ‌HomeKit Secure Video‌ camera does not count against ‌iCloud‌ storage limits.

The Eve Outdoor Cam can be purchased from the Eve website for $250.

I can’t recommend Eve enough. Their products are so so good. And they are very private. The Eve app is very good at automations and triggers as well, controlling other smart products (non-Eve). Looking to get this camera now!

I installed the Eve Outdoor Cam over the weekend. Overall, I’m happy with it - BUT I was really unhappy that the mount assembly is NOT compatible with the standard US electrical junction box that I had behind the existing outdoor light fixture I was replacing - even though their instructions state “Eve Outdoor Cam is best installed replacing an existing outdoor light”. If only the circular mount was around an inch larger in diameter and the internal steel mounting bracket was about 1/2” longer (with the holes 1/2” farther apart), it would have been much simpler.

As it was, I was able to hack together a flat 4 inch junction box cover plate to cover the opening that was behind the existing outdoor light into which I drilled additional holes to which I could then mount the Eve Outdoor Cam. I still need to find something to then cover the corners of the cover plate that shows around the edges of the circular Eve mount cover (I have a pipe escutcheon cover coming today that I’m hoping I can use to surround the outside along the wall).

Not sure why everyone is stuck on the hd vs 4K debate. It really comes down to bit rate and compression. You need to spend a lot more than $250 for a camera to have decent 4K footage. If you look at 4K streaming vs Blu-ray Disc, most of the time the disc will win in terms of quality because it has several times the bitrate. Now for camera streaming it is the same thing. If you keep the bitrate the same the 4K will end up being less quality per pixel and also less light per pixel. If you can increase bitrate you will see greatly improved image quality. Switching to hevc can help with that too. Having a 4K sensor doesn’t magically increase quality.

It's quite expensive for needing a subscription as well to be fully exploited.
You don't need any subscription but Apple's own storage plan.

I love Eve's HomeKit devices but they are on the more expensive side.

Pretty sure I have two eufycam’s that are outside and have HomeKit secure video…
Eve's actual claim is that it's the first FLOODLIGHT homekit camera.
