YouTube Enables 4K Video Playback at 60FPS on New Apple TV 4K

Enabled by the new and more powerful Apple TV 4K, YouTube has enabled 4K video playback at 60 frames per second for its ‌Apple TV‌ app, rather than the previously capped 30 frames per second.

Apple TV 4k 60fps YouTube Feature
YouTube rolled out 4K support for its Apple TV app in October; however, to much disappointment to users, playback was limited to only 30 frames per second. Thanks to the new powerful A12 Bionic processor, as noted on Reddit and the MacRumors Forum, YouTube is now able to play back 4K video at 60 frames per second. MacRumors testing also confirmed 4K video play back at 60 frames per second is not available on the older ‌Apple TV‌ 4K.

The exclusivity of YouTube playback at 4K at 60 frames per second on the new ‌Apple TV‌ 4K, which began arriving to customers today, is likely due to the video codec that YouTube uses compared to other apps, which requires more processing power.

Despite an updated processor, the new ‌Apple TV‌ features the same design as the previous generation but includes a completely redesigned ‌Apple TV‌ remote. The new ‌Apple TV‌ remote is also available for purchase separately for older Apple TVs.

I feel so so so sorry for previous Apple TV 4K, it’s basically a paperweight now
The two that I have still work great. Apple didn't send a command to make them not work anymore.

Only worthwhile if your internet service provider provides you with the bandwith to support 4k video streams. If 4k video's put too much strain on ISP's network infrastructure, expect prices to increase.
where? you can get 4k video on pretty much every kinda of broadband internet plan. its not something you need crazy speed for, it's simply the norm....

Confirmed that the new Apple TV 4K supports 4K HDR @ 59.94Hz on my 2017 LG 4K TV.
I still remember watching MaxTech and the host said that the new Apple TV 4K is not faster than the original Apple TV 4K since A12 is not faster than A10X in benchmarks. It turns out that a newer generation SoC does bring some tangible improvement to the experience.

Is that sarcasm? My Apple TV 4K works exactly the same way today that it did yesterday and the past years and I'm perfectly happy with it.

The world just spent an entire year on video calls, put the lie from ISP’s that they’re bandwidth limited to bed. It’s always been them claiming not to have it to continue charging more when their back ends clearly are capable of more than they admit.
