safaripreviewiconApple today released a new update for Safari Technology Preview, the experimental browser Apple first introduced four years ago in March 2016. Apple designed the ‌Safari Technology Preview‌ to test features that may be introduced into future release versions of Safari.

‌Safari Technology Preview‌ release 103 includes bug fixes and performance improvements for Web Inspector, Web API, CSS, Page Loading, Back-Forward Cache, and JavaScript.

The new ‌Safari Technology Preview‌ update is available for both macOS Mojave and MacOS Catalina, the newest version of the Mac operating system that was released in October 2019.

The ‌Safari Technology Preview‌ update is available through the Software Update mechanism in the Mac App Store to anyone who has downloaded the browser. Full release notes for the update are available on the Safari Technology Preview website.

Apple's aim with ‌Safari Technology Preview‌ is to gather feedback from developers and users on its browser development process. ‌Safari Technology Preview‌ can run side-by-side with the existing Safari browser and while designed for developers, it does not require a developer account to download.

They can make all these upgrades but we will NEVER get 4K youtube :(
That's not a bug or a result of 4K being too far down the to-do list, or any such, rather, it's because Apple and Google have different viewpoints on encoding formats - IIRC, Google insists on VP9/AV1 for 4K, while Apple has thus far preferred to stick with the officially approved standards like H.264 and H.265 (which goes up to 8K).

This is the laziest article series of this entire site. All you are doing is re-using the same text over and over again while updating a few sentences to represent the latest iteration of Safari Technology Preview. Kind of pointless. This is better served at Twitter rather than here. Maybe provide something more relevant or concrete. I too can sign-up to notifications from Apple when an update is released.

I stumbled across this yesterday, it says 4k on my Mac mini 2011 with safari 12, unplayable even in 1080p like I'm used to.

So safari supports 4k in h265 codec or is it something else?
No, but great Finding!. ( Finally )

If you right click on it there is stats for nerds. Which said it is avc1.640033 (266) / mp4a.40.2 (140 )

Suggesting it is still the same H.264. But now you get 4K. It seems be some 3D Video with 360 degree viewing angle ( You can press the control under the BBC music logo to adjust viewing angle.

I wonder if this is only for MultiView Video or if 4K on H.264 is on Youtube's to do list.
