Apple Picks Up New Docuseries Featuring Lin-Manuel Miranda, Spike Lee, Oprah and More

by

Apple has inked a deal for a docuseries called "Dear..." that profiles famous people using an "inventive and cinematic approach" that involves letters written by people whose lives the celebrities have touched, Apple announced today.

The 10-episode series, which is set to debut in the spring, will feature Oprah Winfrey, Gloria Steinem, Spike Lee, Lin-Manuel Miranda, Yara Shahidi, Stevie Wonder, Aly Raisman, Misty Copeland, Big Bird, and more.

The show was inspired by Apple's "Dear Apple" marketing campaign, which saw Apple Watch users read letters sharing how the device has changed their lives. It was created by R.J. Cutler, known for "If I Stay, "The War Room," "American High," and "The September Issue."

I am apparently just on a very different wavelength from whoever is green-lighting new appleTV+ projects. They have yet to announce a single thing that I’d want to see. Their content seems like the anti-HBO.

Tim Cooks obsession with celebrities (from the 80s and 90s) is absolutely... pedestrian.
Where did you get this “Tim Cook obsession with celebrities” talking point?

I’ve seen it quite a number of times around here, and I’d be interested to know what’s behind the spread of it. What does it even mean? o_O 🤣

It just seems like a really weird thing for MR posters to be obsessed about. I can’t quite figure you guys out, and as obsessions go, it seems to be rather... pedestrian 🤷‍♂️

PS Leave Big Bird alone!! 😂

btw he’s from the 60s, not the 80s or 90s

Yes, what do people with the biggest egos need more of? Bigger egos!. We know by now, with all that leaks, many of these celebrities, behind closed doors, in private, hold very low views of people they feel beneath them, including fans. Let Us Now Praise Famous Men, indeed.

He cried when Oprah came on stage during Apple+ announcement. I don’t know if that means he obsessed with celebrity , but it is a glimpse into what he cares about.
Yes, apparently nothing to do with an “obsession with celebrities”, but agreed, it is absolutely a glimpse into exactly what he cares about.

As someone who has committed to donating his entire personal fortune to charity upon his death, I’m sure his personal mission, and that of Steve Jobs—to change the world—resonates greatly with Oprah’s world view.

As she said at that Apple event: “There has never been a moment quite like this one," she said. "We have this unique opportunity to rise to our best selves in how we use and choose to use both our technology and our humanity. That's why I have joined forces with Apple.”

Kind of brings a tear to your eye, doesn’t it 😭
