Sadly, they still offer a 21" iMac with a 1TB 5400 RPM HDD. I guess that's okay for some people, but seems to me that goes against a good customer experience.
Oh no - seems you're right!

https://www.apple.com/shop/buy-mac/imac?product=MMQA2LL/A&step=config#

That is absolutely bloody shooting yourself in the foot then cutting it off and eating it afterwards. No way should that be offered on a general consumer-facing site. Maybe on the specialist Apple store-fronts.

i5-7xx, 8GB ram, Iris 640 graphics, Magic this n that, and a dog-***** HDD to boot from. Trashing the computer just to offer $100 off. The kind of general users who buy that won't have any idea why Fusion or SSD are so much better. I'd rather Apple offered an older CPU for their lower end if they could include a SSD / Fusion as default on the low end.

EDIT: It gets worse. According to this, Apple now only includes 32GB of Flash SSD with their 1TB Fusion on their latest models. How ***** can you get? That only costs about $15 on the high street, and would cost Apple about $5 to add to their low end models. Even the box the iMac comes in probably costs Apple more.

I was going to say anyone spending $1300 on a HDD powered iMac is a galloping idiot. Fortunately I checked the specs and saved myself from a shot in the foot. It’s a 2TB Fusion drive which isn’t too bad.

Apple seems to have belatedly stopped selling HDD-only models some time ago.

Why would that be an advantage? The current models still have USB 3.0 in addition to the versatility of TB3?
There was a time when an iMac would have been far more flexible.

Thunderbolt 2, USB, Firewire 800 as on the 2011 iMac

Go back further to 2008 and the iMac had Firewire 400, Firewire 800, USB and Mini Display Port.

Modern day Macs in general are less flexible without purchasing the obligatory Docking Station.

It's not good for anyone because macOS no longer runs properly on HDD. My mom does only basic work on it and constantly complains about things like Safari hanging, and it's a total pain when I use it too. Only reason she has it is Apple gave it as a replacement for an older iMac.

There is no way I would buy a supposedly new MBP or iMac off Ebay, unless I knew the seller and had dealings with him or her. Something goes wrong, and its a lot of hassle, versus buying directly from Apple.

That one hell of a deal for the 2015 5k iMac with the biggest advantage being pre USB-C/Thunderbolt 3.
