Apple today announced that its active installed base of devices has reached 1.3 billion, a milestone the company hit in January. That includes iPhone, iPod touch, iPad, Mac, Apple TV, and Apple Watch models in use around the world.

The number was shared by Apple CEO Tim Cook in a press release announcing the company's record earnings for the first fiscal quarter of 2018. Cook says that Apple has seen the number of active devices grow 30 percent over the course of the last two years. Apple hit its 1 billion active device milestone back in January of 2016.

"We've also achieved a significant milestone with our active installed base of devices reaching 1.3 billion in January. That's an increase of 30 percent in just two years, which is a testament to the popularity of our products and the loyalty and satisfaction of our customers."

Apple this afternoon said it sold 77.3 million iPhones, 13.2 million iPads, and 5.1 million Macs during the first quarter of 2018.

Well, between work and home, wife and kids, we've done our part with 17 currently active Apple devices. Jebus, is it really that many?! Yes, yes it is.

Edit: I forgot Apple TVs and Apple watches... 23!

I feel horrible. I’m not even an apple person and our household has 3 iphone se, 2 imac 27”, 1 ipad air 2, 2 ipad 12.9, 2 mbp, 1 mac mini, and 1 watch. So that’s 12 items. When I saw Jobs predict this, I guffawed him.
Ummmmm...you're an Apple person

Thinking through all of our iDevices, what's surprising is their longevity. In the last 11 years we've had 17 devices (including those listed plus airport expresses and time capsule). Of those 17, twelve are still in active use, three retired but still functional, and only two are no longer working, one of which was from a drink spilled on a MacBook, and the other from who-knows-what after my niece and nephew had my iPhone 4 for a few years… that's pretty darn good in my book.

If Apple wants to keep this accelerated pace up, sooner or later we may have to start making more babies.....
I mean how many more devices can one household have, and use lol.....

Personally, I've been handing my 'no longer used' devices down to mostly grateful, inner-circle recipients.
