OneDrive 9.1 for iOS Adds Paper Scanning, Offline Folders, and Expiring Share Links

by

OneDrive iconMicrosoft released a "completely rewritten" version update of OneDrive for iOS on Tuesday, promising bug fixes, performance improvements, and several new features for Office 365 subscribers.

Version 9.1 of OneDrive now offers users the ability to scan as many paper documents as they want and save the pages into a single PDF, with options to crop, rotate, or delete the scanned pages.

Microsoft says this version of the app is also bringing Offline Folders to the cloud service for the first time, although the feature is being rolled out over the next couple of days. Once enabled, users can tap and hold on important folders and then tap the new offline command to make them available with or without internet access.

In addition, this update offers improved sharing capabilities, including the option to create links that expire on a specific day, providing temporary access to a file or folder. To set up such a link, tap and hold on a file, tap share, and then select Link Settings.

Lastly, work or school account holders can try out a new personalized view in the Shared tab called Discover, which offers up interesting or relevant documents based on who they work with and what content they work on.

OneDrive is a free download for iPhone and iPad available from the App Store. [Direct Link]

Does anyone know why certain characters (like : or /) are not accepted to upload by the OneDrive for business account but there are no problems with a standard account? It's the same App for both accounts on macOS and iOS.
Backend SharePoint integration requirements. The now-older "Business" sync client on Windows isn't set up for file use segregation (and may never be, I think it's been depricated) and on both the Win and Mac clients MS still hasn't worked out the bugs since the move from AWS to Azure. SharePoint isn't a factor with the Personal accounts (obviously).

There's 4 clients for Windows, if that's the OS being used. I don't use the Mac client (or any Mac Office products) for any work-related tasks except for occasional tests. Their new OD client for Windows only works with Office 365 but not local SP Servers (at least, it won't connect to mine…).

It is just a limitations by onedrive for business. It wont allow # signs either. I can't remember where I read it, but someone mentioned that it would be addressed at some point. I had to go through 1000s of files and rename then when we migrated to 0365 from our internal servers.

So is there ANYONE for whom ANY of the new features work or are at least recognizable in the app (multiple pages scan, offline folders, etc.)? This update seems to be exactly the same version as before without any changes at all (except for the new version number 9.1).

This may just prove the point that you don't need a "pro" device to scan document and a "pen" to sign.
Shopping at an Apple Store proves you don't need a "pen" to sign. I signed receipts with finger on an older iPhone. Not even a 6.

So if the paper scanning is featured in the new OneDrive app, doesn't that take away one of the big iPad Pro's selling points?
I've been using and loving Scanner Pro ('https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/scanner-pro-pdf-document-scanner-with-ocr/id333710667?mt=8') for years. There are others out there. Apple is good at adopting functionality from apps once they prove their universal usefulness (e.g., flashlight apps).

Now just work on your awful Mac OneDrive app Microsoft . Our staff have such a bad experience with OneDrive it will be an up hill struggle to get them using it again even when it's fixed.
Same here. We had such a bad experience with one drive that we switched to google
If you think theirs is bad, try out Amazon's turd of an offering. I am on the unlimited plan so don't really want to give it up but it is constantly failing to sync properly, loses files, won't sync moved folders and regularly gets it's knickers in a twist and then max's out the CPU on the Mac/Windows device until the battery is dead.

It is so bad I actually feel embarrassed for them.
