Apple Releases Safari Technology Preview 17 With Bug Fixes and Feature Tweaks

by

safaripreviewiconApple today released a new update for Safari Technology Preview, the experimental browser Apple first introduced in March of 2016. Apple designed the Safari Technology Preview to test features that may be introduced into future release versions of Safari.

Safari Technology Preview release 17 includes bug fixes and updates for Safari Extensions, Custom Elements, Web APIs, Input Events, URL Parser, Fetch API, JavaScript, Web Inspector, CSS, Media, Networking, and more.

The Safari Technology Preview update is available through the Software Update mechanism in the Mac App Store to anyone who has downloaded the browser. Full release notes for the update are available on the Safari Technology Preview website.

Apple's goal with Safari Technology Preview is to receive feedback from developers and users on its browser development process. Safari Technology Preview can run side-by-side with the existing Safari browser and while designed for developers, it does not require a developer account to download.

Now has a score of 444 on HTML5test.com (previous TP 429, and Safari 10 has 383), which is almost on par with Firefox and Microsoft Edge. Good to see that Apple is catching up.

I hope they're going to change the keyboard shortcut for re-opening closed tabs. It's currently Cmd + Z which means when I'm typing in a textarea and want to undo I end up opening old tabs rather than undoing what I've typed.
Try: ⇧ ⌘ T.
