First 'Pokemon Go' Update Locks Some Users Out of the Game

by

Pokemon Go received its first update earlier today, fixing several bugs players had experienced since the app's release. Some users on Reddit (via The Verge) are now claiming that the update (1.01) includes a game-breaking bug that locks them out of the app.

Users who sign into the app via a Pokemon Trainer Club account rather than a Google account are now unable to access the game and its servers. Dogecoin founder Jackson Palmer debugged the network traffic and found that the app no longer sends an HTTP request when you log in with a Pokemon Trainer Club account. This indicates that the problem is with the app itself, rather than being a server issue.

Currently, the only way for users with Pokemon Trainer Club accounts to bypass the bug is to avoid updating the app to version 1.01. Due to Apple's App Store regulatory policies, it's unclear how long it will take for developer Niantic to deliver a fix.

Since its launch last week, Pokemon Go has quickly become a worldwide phenomenon, sending Nintendo's stock soaring and earning an estimated $1.6 million in daily revenue with approximately 7.5 million downloads in the United States alone.

Starting to wonder if MacRumors gets a cut of that $1.6 million a day for every article they post about the game.

A technology based site, yes. But as you put it, let's "be real". They are capitalizing on all the Pokemon rage right now. I bet their website visits have never been higher because of all the new readers that are only coming here to read about Pokemon GO. Nothing wrong with that; they gotta make money somehow, and I'm sure all the GO players appreciate it. As I am not one of those players, I find myself uninterested in being notified every time there's a hint of news about Pokemon GO. I come here for the "Mac" rumors after all.
I'm so tired of the daily photo of some possible, probable, could-it-be dodgey photo of the back of something that might be an iPhone 7, or another boring story of how Apple has broken yet another sales record and is better than everyone else, or how there is a new Watch band or some Apple Music related story. It's sort of refreshing to have something different.

Maybe not so much for you, but for others GO is a big thing right now. Next week or next month, maybe not so much...who knows, but stories like this are informative for those who are "into it". Not everything they post can be interesting to everyone.

Wow, a technology based site, posting about the most popular apps in the world. How out of place?! Be real.

On another note, luckily my PokemonGO app is still fine, even though I am on beta.

Well over 50% of the people I saw walking around in NYC (Manhattan and BK) today holding smartphones (majority of people) were playing this game. I'd say that's a phenomenon. Almost more daily users than Twitter, in several days of being released. That's kind of news. By far and away biggest smash hit for "AR" technology ever, that's kind of a thing.

Seriously. No need for an article about a game that is barely Apple-related. Please, only one single article about the release of the game (and MAYBE about bug issues if it's super-important), but not more.
Your life is difficult, no doubt. The burden of scrolling through stories you're not as interested in on an online forum. God, things really ARE tough these days!

Maybe I'm missing something, but how does it make them 1.6 million a day? I haven't played a lot, but the game seems to be free. I haven't even come across IAP yet.
There are in app purchases.

Life is tough, I know! Actually having to filter through a few stories you're not as interested in, on an online forum. It gets better, to borrow a phrase! You'll just have to trudge through the misery of it all for the time being, and somehow find a way to manage. Sometimes life is just not fair, man.
