Netflix for iOS Updated With iPhone 6 Support, 1080p Video for iPhone 6 Plus

by

The Netflix for iOS app was today updated to version 7.0, adding support for the iPhone 6 and the iPhone 6 Plus. With the new fully optimized app, more content is visible on the screen and menu bars are shrunken down to a more appropriate size for the bigger display.

The app has also gained support for iOS 8 and it introduces full 1080p HD streaming video on the larger-screened iPhone 6 Plus, made possible because of the native 1920 x 1080 resolution of the device. 1080p streaming is not available on the iPhone 6, which has a resolution of 1334 x 750.

According to Netflix, users will just need "a good WiFi connection" to take advantage of 1080p streaming on the iPhone 6 Plus, with 1080p resolution extending to movies and Netflix original TV shows like Orange is the New Black and House of Cards.

What's New in Version 7.0
- Optimized for iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus so you can see more content
- 1080p video on iPhone 6 Plus
- iOS 8 support
- Chromecast improvements

Netflix can be downloaded from the App Store for free. Monthly plans start at $7.99. [Direct Link]

Def. a big phone. But once you get used to it, which you do. You have a better phone, better screen, better battery and better camera.

Unfortunately, my pocket is unable to get used today it. Even the 6 is a little uncomfortable sometimes.

What ever happened to Netflix dumping stupid Silverlight? That never happened. It still requires it, as I found out last time someone wanted to watch Netflix on my computer.

Nope.

Netflix does not require Silverlight on Yosemite. It might still use it if you have it installed, but otherwise it will use HTML5 (with DRM) - and it works great.

Seems the iPhone 6 Plus is gaining all the best stuff... Too bad I don't want such a ridiculously big phone.

Comcast has data limits on home ISP services now!? Geez...the US is really getting the shaft connectivity-wise nowadays. The cellular rates have always been excessive, and now the home ISP's are going to that business model???

This is because a lit of ISPs are normally monopolies in certain areas. They have even lobbied to pass laws so municipalities can't run their own cable.

In places where those laws were successfully challenged and the municipality installed their own ISP. The service from the cable company suddenly gets better. Like magic
