Apple Acquiring Italian Digital Audio Editing Software Firm Redmatica

TechCrunch points to a post [Google translation] from Italian blog Fanpage noting that Apple has signaled its intent to purchase Redmatica, a small Italian software firm responsible for audio editing apps such as Keymap Pro and AutoSampler.

Evidence of the acquisition has appeared in the weekly bulletin of AGCM, Italy's antitrust regulatory agency. The announcement, which is in Italian, begins on page 37 of the bulletin (PDF) published on May 28, and the most relevant portion translates into English as follows:

Under the provisions of the contract "Asset Purchase Agreement Relating to the business as an ongoing concern of Redmatica S.r.l." (hereinafter the Agreement) with the present operation, Apple intends to acquire, through a transfer of assets, the business Redmatica.

AGCM determined that the proposed acquisition would not be anticompetitive in nature given the relatively small sizes of the entities in that specific market and an abundance of competitors. Consequently, the agency does not object to the acquisition by Apple.

This is a GOOD thing!

It doesn't look like some folks here know what this software is. As a redmatica customer, lemme help.

This software cut its teeth on sample management and creation. For those of us professional sound designers and composers with MASSIVE amounts samlples and huge libraries for our EXS24 (the native logic sampler) managing all those files and keeping them optimized can be a major chore. Especially if you use external or additional internal drives.

redmatica sample managers have been a Godsend with regards to Logic. Apple acquiring this tells me that the manager may possibly be integrated, thereby furthering the development of Logic Pro. This, folks, is an AWESOME acquisition. Kinda like when apple first acquired Logic from a little German company called Emagic... It was the best thing to happen to the software.

Logic Pro users are stoked, trust me.

I don't understand the equation here.

Apple buys an audio editing software company that specializes in portable devices and this means the Pro is dead ?

How so ?

This looks like they are trying to make Garage Band better.

Why is this the death of Logic Pro? Logic Pro is an industry standard. Killing it would make no sense whatsoever.

They bought an audio editing software company, this means it can only improve Logic Pro, not kill it

If Apple is going to kill the MacPro they won't advertise it, they'll just take it from the store, like they did with the white macbook.

Its a shame but a the price it is now its a theft, a computer with that processing power with 4GBs OF RAM?! WTF apple? i'ts bad enough that you sell your laptops and imacs with 4gb of ram, it just doesn't make sence RAM is so cheap nowadays, i bought 8gb of ram for my 2011 mbp for a bit more then 30€...

But the new iPad is the replacement for the Mac Pro. The combination of the iPhone & iPod Touch takes care of the Mac Mini, iMac, MacBook Pro & MacBook Air. This purchase is just another one in the continuing replacement of all Macs with the many iToys.

I guess that my Mac Pro with 4 3 TB hard drives & 6 30+' displays is not needed anymore. Just 1 or 2 3.5" displays & a sub 10" is all that wee need anymore.

Clearly you don't have a clue.

Redmatica doesn't make iToys. They've got a sample manager for iPad but their area is Logic Pro and other higher end DAW.

I guess you can see whatever you want though.
