Cabinet Ministers in the United Arab Emirates have been issued iPads as part of an e-briefcase initiative to streamline cabinet communications and operations. His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, prime minister of the UAE, tweeted this photograph of three ministers using iPads at a cabinet meeting.

We also launched the “Minister e-briefcase” for cabinet members. We want to automate all cabinet processes and operations. The goal is to achieve speed and flexibility in decision making. Ministers were given iPad devices. I received one too.

The iPads should allow ministers to maintain better communication with their federal ministries, and reduce the amount of paper they must carry.

His highness? I didn't realize we were under UAE rule.

It's a title, like Mr. or Dr... Any royal is His Highness and the highest person (usually the King) is His Majesty.

Bet they feel dumb. Getting iPad 2 ought before the new one comes out :-)

I can bet they'll upgrade to iPad 3 next week, and leave the iPad 2 to the teaboys.

lol i love it how all the kids use the most trendy words, in this case subpoena which just got blogged here a couple of hours ago to add to their fake status[

Right, right... Join date 2003 and still looking for status, as opposed to a join date of 2 months ago and being self-appointed post police.

Didn't realize "subpoena" was suddenly trendy with the kids-- is it some sort of sexual euphemism?

I was merely lamenting the fact that my executive branch can't use email because Congress can demand transcripts on a whim.

Dubai - second largest and most populous emirate of the UAE - managed to get down the contribution of oil to the GDP to below 10%.

It's easy to get oil to contribute less than 10% to your GDP when you HAVE NONE. Abu Dhabi had to bail them in 09 out since they're the most oil rich emirate, while Dubai has relatively little. They primarily rely on business and tourism, which in this economic climate will have them looking for another bailout very soon.

----------

The UAE are doing a **** load better job than most other countries. Watch a documentary, read a book, watch the news for once. Unbiased style btw.

If you're going to go as far as to call people rednecks or idiots at least do it with proper grammar. I'm guessing you're emirati since they're the only ones who love Dubai this much. Otherwise if you had actually been there, like me, you'd know how it really is there. They build the largest malls and buildings in the world while the economy struggles and they have no infrastructure. What has Dubai done better than any other oil country? Nothing. They don't have any good schools, they're struggling to invite businesses in and are living off solely the tourism industry. The huge buildings they built are mostly unoccupied and construction has stopped on most new ones.

Here's an example. While in Qatar in 2010, my cousin and I decided to fly to Dubai for the weekend. We got a 4.5 star suite at a great hotel for only 90 bucks for TWO NIGHTS. A 45 minute taxi ride costs only 12 bucks to and from the airport. The economy here is struggling while the terrible leaders keep building up their buildings, and thus, their egos.

they forbide political parties... but give iPads to their ministers.

What a cool government !

cause political parties are doing so much good here.

----------

I'd be jealous, but they have to deal with the s%^*iest weather on earth and cant rock jeans and T's.

80 degrees and sunny is bad weather? Short and t shirts are the norm. Don't know where you get your terrible information.
