aperture 3Apple today continued its parade of software updates ahead of the OS X Lion launch with the release of Aperture 3.1.3, providing a long list of improvements and undoubtedly quietly making some last-minute tweaks to ensure full compatibility with Lion.

This update supports general compatibility issues, and also addresses overall stability and performance. Minor issues addressed include the following:

- Improves reliability and performance when syncing web-published albums
- Slideshow exports are now handled as a background operation
- Crop tool now correctly supports use of gestures to define crop size
- Gesture support can now be enabled or disabled in Preferences
- Fixes an issue that could cause a blank sheet to display when placing a book or print order
- Published MobileMe, Facebook and Flickr albums now appear in a Web section in the Projects Inspector
- Shift-clicking snapshots on the Faces corkboard now allows you to make contiguous selections
- Metadata presets are now correctly applied to imported audio files
- Fixes an issue that could cause Aperture to quit unexpectedly when trimming audio in full screen mode
- Resolves various issues when adding names to Faces using accented, Japanese, Korean or Simplified Chinese characters
- Improves stability when browsing video clips
- Addresses reliability of library repair and rebuild

Full details on the update, which weighs in at 292.02 MB and requires Mac OS X 10.6.6 or later, are available in the release notes.

Seriously....this whole....some updates come through the store, other through Software Update.....is super clunky!

I don't want to have to open the freakin' store just to see if I have an update. SU will check everyday and let me know.

Seems like a step backwards.

So you paid $5000 to be able to run a $80 app? Wow!
What is this?

1) My Mac Pro wasn't $5000
2) Aperture wasn't $80 when I bought it
3) I use my Mac Pro for video editing and all sorts of other tasks that justify the power
4) Why would you even post this?

Oh and in response to your other post, Aperture does use the GPU to offload effects processing using Core Image. Though obviously that doesn't help the other stuff you are saying, but I suspect most of that is an I/O bottleneck on your end and not entirely Aperture's fault. The app is definitely not lightweight though, I will give you that, but i've seen it running in latest gen iMacs and MacBook Pros just fine, which is essentially the real recommended specs (Core i5 or better Mac)

when are they gonna add watermarks for export to flickr, gallery.me.com, facebook, etc?
+1

That really does need to be an option. Im bored of exporting jpegs with a watermark and then uploading those via the frankly annoying flikr uploader.

I love Aperture. I just wish it were a little faster for folks who have large libraries. Otherwise it's great, no complaints.

Faces still broken?

Does this update finally fix Faces? That is, do I still have to assing names for some faces again and again and again and ...

Also, does using anything other than ASCII characters for names still mess up Faces?

Yes, I am trying to make a point here, Apple. I have submitted these bugs enough times to get them fixed already!
