Mount Your Canon/Nikon SLR Lenses on Your iPhone

by

iphone slr mount 1982 600
A new SLR adapter for iPhones 3 and 4 is out from online photography shop Photojojo.

The kit includes a case for your iPhone, UV filter and lens adapter for either Canon or Nikon lenses. $249 for the iPhone 4 edition and $190 for iPhone 3/3GS.

There have been several attempts at iPhone SLR adapters in the past, but this seems to be the first mass-produced attempt. The new iOS 5 "volume-up as shutter release" feature should work together nicely with the SLR rig.

Jeremy Salvador previously designed a iPhone SLR mount, but wasn't able to successfully commercialize the product. He comments on PhotoJojo's attempt:

Sure the case and adapter combo is ridiculously sized – but what other device can take a photo, edit it on the fly, and share it on the internet? The purists can scoff all they want at this one. Score one for the iPhone hackers.

Now there are still going to be some draw backs.

At $200+ it's certainly not for everyone, but for photographers with lots of glass kicking around, there are worse ways to spend the money -- if it works.

I can see some advantages of using the iPhone - namely video shots and GPS location - but I don't think this is really practical for us.

I would like to see
1) an iPhone/iPad app connecting wirelessly to my camera's SD card and pulling off the photos while out (without needing a wifi network).
2) an app which takes my iPhone's GPS location data and writes it into my camera's photos.

That would be useful.

Look into EyeFi SD cards. They transfer over WiFi, but one of their tricks is they can create their own WiFi network if one isn't available. So really it would work anywhere. And some models have built in geotagging. They can be set to transfer to a computer or iPhone/iPad. It's very nice.

This is EXACTLY what. I want too.

I wonder what Rockwell D40 thinks about it.
Old ken will love it. He'll be ditching the D40!

Im surprised apple didn't make this and sell it as their "pro" photography range.

This makes life SO much easier!

Imagine not having to lug around that bulky bit of camera! Now I just have to lug around those half-dozen bulky lenses and other bits of unfortunately shaped photography equipment. Life is better today by 1%.
