Tiger Direct Sues Apple

According to Bloomberg (MacNN, Appleinsider), computer retailer Tiger Direct is filing suit against Apple Computer for trademark infringement for the use of 'Tiger' associated with Mac OS X 10.4. which is scheduled to be released tomorrow.

According to the report, a court injunction is being sought to prevent the official release of Mac OS X Tiger tomorrow.

The company says that Apple's use of Tiger has changed internet search results, directly impacting its ability to market product to its customers. The company alleges that Apple's use of the name has adversely affected its ranking among the internet's largest search engines, Google and Yahoo, bumping the company from its usual spot in the first three results.

Interestingly, Apple had already filed for the Tiger trademark back in July 2, 2003 and remains listed at the US Patent and Trademark Office but with an opposition now pending at the Trademark Trial and Appeal Board.
