PowerMac G5 Details (Processors, Cooling, KB, Codename)

Apple has posted a PowerMac G5 Developer Note (Preliminary) PDF which provides more technical details on the new PowerMac G5's for developers. Some interesting notes:

Processors

The document describes the new PowerMac's processor modules, and notes that each PowerPC G5 is housed on its own Processor Module (logic board). Dual Processor machines contain two processor modules.

Cooling

Apple also provides some description of the Cooling system which is controlled primarily by the Operating System. Temperture and Power Consumption are monitored and adjustments are communicated to the "Fan Control Unit".

The implication of this, however, is that if Mac OS X is not the booting Operating System, the alternate development operating system must provide the thermal management.

Keyboard/Mouse

This document reports that the PowerMac G5 comes with an "Apple Keyboard" and "Apple Mouse" and describes the currently shipping non-Pro items.

If accurate, this may end speculation of revised accessories for the PowerMac G5. An alternative explanation for the End of Life'd (EOL'd) Pro mice and keyboards at Apple Stores may simply be a consolidation down to one set of accessories for Apple.

Codenames

Of interest, the new PowerMacs' "model property" is PowerMac7,2 and it appears to have carried a codename of "Omega". This Tech Overview PDF still carries the name (Omega) in the Document Summary, and one user notes that Apple Store eNews from 6/23 still had this name in one their promotional materials:
