iPhone Cameras to Improve in These Four Ways
Apple is evaluating four camera upgrades for future iPhone Pro models, with the first arriving on the iPhone 18 Pro this September, according to oft-accurate Weibo-based leaker Digital Chat Station.

Top of the list is variable aperture, which Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo flagged for iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max models back in December 2024. An October report said Apple was already discussing components with suppliers. Notably, it would be a first for the iPhone – the main camera has used a fixed ƒ/1.78 aperture for several generations now.
The other three upgrades are apparently coming later. Digital Chat Station points to a 1/1.12-inch main sensor (the same size as the one in Vivo's X300 Ultra, and a step up from the iPhone 17 Pro's 1/1.28-inch), better optical stabilization on the ultra-wide lens, and a 200-megapixel periscope telephoto lens. That last one, says the leaker, isn't expected before 2028.
