I honestly don’t even want to update because of the ads

Google Maps has had them for a while.
For me, the expectation has always been for Apple to be better, not the same, as everyone else.

I thought Apple was suppose to "Think Different"

Someone else reminded me, iAds started under Steve Jobs so they’ve been doing ads for some time now.
iAds was for 3rd party app developers who wanted to place ads in their apps.

Now, we have Apple wanting to place ads in Apple apps.

Can I opt out and just get the security updates? I don’t need all the bloatware using precious GB and cycle in useless features.
