Google Launches Gemini Import Tool for Switching From ChatGPT, Claude, and Other AI Apps

Google is adding a new memory import feature to Gemini, making it easier for customers to switch to Gemini AI from another AI service. Users can import memories, context, and chat history from other AI apps.

Importing memory will provide Gemini with an understanding of a user's preferences, relationships, and personal context. Google says that Gemini will understand the same key facts that have been shared with other apps, so there is no need to start over from scratch when moving to Gemini from another AI service.

The import option can be accessed through the Gemini settings, and it will provide a prompt to copy and paste into an existing AI app. The prompt will ask the AI to generate a preferences summary that can be pasted into Gemini.

Google will also allow users to import their full chat history in a ZIP format, with support for searching past conversation threads and building on those threads with Gemini.

I basically only use Gemini, just like I basically only use Google. Siri is absolute garbage at the moment. I look forward to Gemini integration being an option for Siri.

I have to admit I like Gemini a lot. I haven’t used competing AIs so much that I can say which one is better than which, but I find Gemini user-friendly and impressively informative.

Google's really slurping up as much data as they cane get their hands on. For as much crap they gave Apple for operating single directionally, I can bet a handsome amount of money they didn't make an export feature to competing AI Apps.

I prefer Gemini and have been switching over but I have to admit that chatGPT pulls off the illusion of a real person more convincingly. Gemini breaks that illusion when it repeatedly drops in keywords that it knows about you when they're irrelevant to the current conversation so it becomes obvious that it's just pattern matching.

Nonetheless, we use Gemini Pro at work so I'm switching my personal account as well. Incredible how openAI blew their lead.

I have not seen many comments about ChatGPT versus Gemini….as a ChatGPT occasional user, should I switch?
I would hardly consider myself an expert but for me it seems to depend on what I’m doing, seems asking a question GPT is better for the most part with Gemini you get about the same answer just not as detailed.

But for photos Gemini in my opinion beats GPT

Well, Gemini’s iOS app requires a Google account, so it is not quite anonymous. ChatGPT app can be used without a sign-in, but then it’s missing on a lot of features. A free ChatGPT is also capping your daily use. I also find ChatGPT to be more of a pleaser, trying to guess what answer I am more likely to hear.

My ideal scenario would be Apple developing a much better Siri backed up by Gemini with Apple’s level of privacy.
