Apple Seeds Release Candidate Version of macOS Sequoia 15.6

Apple today seeded the release candidate version of an upcoming macOS Sequoia 15.6 update to public beta testers and developers for testing purposes, with the software coming a week after Apple released the third macOS Sequoia 15.6 beta.

macOS Sequoia Feature
Testers can opt-in to the macOS Sequoia beta through the Software Update section of the System Settings app.

There's no word yet on what's included in macOS Sequoia 15.6, and no new features have been found in the betas so far. Apple's work on macOS Sequoia is winding down as it focuses on macOS Tahoe, the newest version of macOS that's coming in the fall.

I might not install macOS 26. It's too big a leap from macOS 15.

If memory serves, RC builds would be labeled without the "Beta number" suffix. Here we're getting a "Beta 4" with a release-style build number (12A34 vs 12A3456a).

apple accidentally also released macOS 26.0 beta 4 (25A5316i) but this has since been pulled

not sure if re-release will have same build

this also manifested as some sort of accidental tahoe public beta: https://www.macrumors.com/2025/07/21/macos-tahoe-public-beta-accidental-release/ which has also been pulled

one has to wonder how such a monumental mistake can happen

These updates mostly provide SDK-compatibility with the next OS releases, so developers can more easily target the previous major OS release without compromising functionality for the current (next) major OS release.
