Perplexity Gains Labs for Creating Reports, Spreadsheets, Web Apps and More

AI-powered search tool Perplexity today gained Perplexity Labs, a feature that provides subscribers with a way to create reports, spreadsheets, web apps, and dashboards that are backed by "extensive research and analysis."

The company says that if Perplexity Search is a 24/7 answer machine, Perplexity Labs is akin to having an entire team available for help.

Perplexity Labs can work on its own for 10 minutes or more, using tools for deep web browsing, code execution, chart creation, and image generation. It is able to complete what would have "taken days of work" in a 10 minute period, developing marketing plans, analyzing finances, creating meal plans, and more. Perplexity has examples of what Perplexity Labs is able to do in its Projects Gallery.

Perplexity Pro subscribers have access to Labs as of today, and it can be selected from the mode selector interface on the web or in the iOS app. Mac app support is coming soon. Perplexity Pro is priced at $20 per month.

I don't see a path to Perplexity coming out the other end of this AI bubble intact. It feels very much like a placeholder company that's allowed to exist until platforms fully roll out their own integrated solutions.

I don't know why Apple hasn't bought Perplexity yet. It's basically the generative AI on top of every Google search... except it actually works. It doesn't take reddit ********s about snorting concrete for daily nutrition and present it as fact. It basically solves the biggest problem stopping the Apple Intelligence rollout.

I don’t know anymore which path to take… have been using ChatGPT free tier for the time being successfully for so many pesky side tasks that pile up on top of my main expertise daily job.

But so many options, Cursor, Claude, Grok (this one was my first interaction with the live audio thing where it was fantastic talking to it asking for advice while playing a game), and so many others.
Add to that all the image ones, 3D models, embedded AI on several services…

Will have to wait for this battle to settle and have clear winners in each of the main domains.
I’m not sure what the purpose of perplexity is, I’ve got it only because it’s free with revolut premium.
I think so far grok and ChatGPT is best, I’m impressed with deep seek too, Claude is ok, same is copilot, and then Gemini is far far far behind and worst.
I could use perplexity but then with automatic model selection, it could use Gemini, so I choose to use grok as I cannot exclude a model, but then it’s grok 3 beta, while if I use native grok app it’s 3.0, and I never reached a limit on the free version, so I just use grok mainly.
