The low-cost iPad that Apple released this week with an A16 chip is able to run Final Cut Pro for ‌iPad‌, according to the Final Cut Pro App Store page.

Under compatibility, Final Cut Pro for ‌iPad‌ has been updated to say that it requires iPadOS 17.6 or later "and a device with an M-series or A16 or later chip."

Prior to the release of the ‌iPad‌, the most affordable device that was able to run Final Cut Pro for ‌iPad‌ was the iPad mini with A17 Pro chip, which is priced at $499. The 11th-generation ‌iPad‌ is cheaper, and it provides more screen space for video editing purposes.

With Final Cut Pro available on the ‌iPad‌, there is a much more affordable way for people to access professional video editing software. Affordability is increased thanks to the option to pay for Final Cut Pro on a monthly basis, with Apple charging $4.99 per month for access.

While Final Cut Pro runs on the ‌iPad‌, there are some features that are limited to iPads with more powerful chips and more advanced functions, such as recording in ProRes and editing video timelines with Apple Pencil hover.

That's all fine and dandy but if this heavily binned A16 can run it why can't the A15 iPad mini run it
Maybe because of A16’s 6GB Of RAM Compared to 4GB for the Mini 6?

It’s a great little iPad. I bought one for my dad and it’s pretty snappy. I was pleasantly surprised.

Apple sometimes restricts software and features by year of product release, and not necessarily by actual capability.

This is especially true with Apple OS releases. Our 2017 iPad Pro 10.5 with A10X and 4 GB RAM does not support iPadOS 18, yet our 2019 iPad 7th gen with A10 and 3 GB RAM does.

Just use Resolve. It works fine and isn’t subscription.

This.
If the iPad mini 6 with A15 also supports FCP, then the iPad mini 7 sales number would be slightly dropped.
That sales drop will be apparent in some developing countries, as in those countries the market usually will go towards used products first if the used and new have the same (or similar) capabilities.
You really want to use Final Cut Pro on an iPad mini? Isn’t that too small lol?

Now do AI.
I don’t plan to get Final Cut Pro subscription anyways… I have the Mac app and it’s fine for me… iPad doesn’t seams to be a great device for this especially it’s better with a keyboard which I would need to buy for a better experience… then it doesn’t has many ports to at least plug an sd card and a ssd and if I can well charge…

But yes more AI would be very cool in Final Cut Pro for Mac
