Apple Pay Donation Campaign for World AIDS Day Raised $3 Million

(RED) today announced that the annual Apple Pay donation campaign raised a total of $3 million this year for The Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria. Apple's donation was capped at $3 million, so it reached that cap.

Apple Pay RED
"Thank you, Apple and Apple customers for hitting this incredible milestone and helping provide life-saving healthcare in vulnerable communities," said (RED).

Last month, Apple announced that it would again donate $5 to The Global Fund for every purchase made using Apple Pay on Apple.com, through the Apple Store app, or at an Apple Store from November 29 through December 8.

The Global Fund aims to combat diseases such as HIV/AIDS, tuberculosis, and malaria throughout the developing world. Apple said its donation to the organization will continue to "help fund critical health programs that save lives."

Apple runs this donation campaign ahead of World AIDS Day on December 1 each year.

Apple has supported The Global Fund for 18 years through its partnership with the (RED) brand, co-founded by U2 singer Bono. Apple offers some products in a (PRODUCT)RED color, and a portion of the proceeds from every one of these products sold by Apple goes to The Global Fund. Apple said it has raised more than $250 million to date.

The number of Apple products available in (PRODUCT)RED has dwindled in recent years.

They should have said “thank you Apple customers” instead of thanking Apple also. The customer is paying and Apple is ripping the customer. So why thanks to Apple?

I’ve no problem donating for the RED fund. But making Apple a hero is odd.

Apple announced that it would again donate $5 to The Global Fund for every purchase made using Apple Pay on Apple.com, through the Apple Store app, or at an Apple Store from November 29 through December 8.
Did you read the article? Apple is clearly making the donation from the monies that customers spend. How exactly is Apple "ripping" anyone? Apple deserves, at least the majority of the thanks, because they didn't have to run this donation campaign at all. One could argue that the customers deserve a nod as well but honestly, how many people do you think ordered specifically because they knew of this campaign and wanted to be part of it? IMHO Apple had a number they wanted to donate and created a campaign that would satisfy that number.

Amazing how "doing good" is never doing good enough.

Out of the three (aids, tuberculosis, and malaria), malaria is the most prevalent worldwide by a long ways.

It’s hard to debate in good faith when Apple proofs time after time again they’re the ones purely focused on money instead of pure change.

It’s very cheap advertisement for Apple. A ad campaign will cost them 10 fold at the minimum. Now they’ve the same results for a fraction of the price.

And while I’m typing this they’ve already reaped another 30 million from customers.
So, they shouldn’t have donated any money then? Since all of their money is coming from their customers? Or what is your point?

Well it’s money from Apple customers so Apple should thank the customers for making this possible.
Again, did you read the article?

(RED) today announced ('https://x.com/RED/status/1871211971913429063') that the annual Apple Pay donation campaign ('https://www.macrumors.com/2024/11/26/apple-pay-world-aids-day-donation-campaign/') raised a total of $3 million this year for The Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria ('https://www.theglobalfund.org/'). Apple's donation was capped at $3 million, so it reached that cap.

"Thank you, Apple and Apple customers for hitting this incredible milestone and helping provide life-saving healthcare in vulnerable communities," said (RED).
The acknowledgement and thanks, to both Apple and their customers, is coming from Red not Apple. It is (RED)s announcement and they are the one issuing thanks to the parties involved, Apple is not involved in this.

I am not sure how you are missing this.

Than Red should have said: thank you Apple customers for making this happen ?

Sure I’ve read and not missed it.
My god man they literally did, it is right here:

"Thank you, Apple and Apple customers for hitting this incredible milestone and helping provide life-saving healthcare in vulnerable communities," said (RED).
How can you possibly miss it?!?!?! (RED) literally thanked Apple customers (along with Apple).

Again though, how can you not comprehend that Apple is the one making the donation?!?! Apple setup the campaign and donated $5 per order, Apple deserves thanks for the donation.

A disease that can be easily prevented.
People who don’t have access to proper education or healthcare and rape victims will probably strongly disagree with you.

Also, basically you’re playing the blame game putting all responsibility and stigma on the patient.
