iOS 19 Rumored to Include Biggest Upgrade to Siri Since 2011
Siri is receiving some new features powered by Apple Intelligence on iOS 18, but an even bigger revamp is expected with iOS 19 next year.

iOS 19 will introduce a "more conversational Siri" powered by "more advanced large language models," according to Bloomberg's Mark Gurman. He said this upgrade will make Siri more like ChatGPT, allowing the assistant to "handle more sophisticated requests" and better respond to "back-and-forth conversations." This would be the biggest overhaul to Siri's underlying system since Apple built the assistant into the iPhone 4S in 2011.
Unfortunately, the more ChatGPT-like Siri experience is apparently still a year and a half away from launching. Gurman expects the revamped assistant to debut on the iPhone as early as spring 2026, likely as part of an iOS 19.4 update.
As mentioned, Siri is already gaining some new features with iOS 18 updates. When you are using Siri on an iPhone 15 Pro or any iPhone 16, a colorful glow appears around the edge of the screen. iOS 18.1 gave Siri more Apple device knowledge, and the ability to better understand someone when they stumble over their words. Siri is gaining ChatGPT integration on iOS 18.2, which will be released next month. And with iOS 18.4 next year, Siri will gain more advanced capabilities like on-screen awareness, deeper per-app controls, and more.
Siri was an innovative iPhone feature back in 2011, but it has fallen behind competing digital assistants like Amazon's Alexa and Google's Assistant in recent years. The arrival of chatbots like ChatGPT and Google's Gemini has further amplified Siri's shortcomings, so the upgrades that Apple is said to be planning for iOS 19 are much needed.
