Apple to Donate Towards Hurricane Helene Relief Efforts, Tim Cook Says

In a social media post today, Apple CEO Tim Cook said that Apple will be making a donation of an undisclosed amount to Hurricane Helene relief efforts.

"We're thinking of all those facing the catastrophic aftermath of Hurricane Helene," said Cook. "Apple will be making a donation to help with relief efforts on the ground."

Hurricane Helene made landfall at Florida's Big Bend on late Thursday, before carrying on through several southeastern U.S. states such as Georgia and North Carolina, resulting in catastrophic damage and reportedly more than 100 deaths.

Apple has donated to the American Red Cross for hurricane relief efforts in the past.

It's crazy how many towns have been destroyed and how bad the impact of this has been. The response so far has been really pathetic from the government and companies compared to other prior disasters. Hopefully bigger players like apple chipping in gives a bit more notice to the catastrophe.

Why don’t they say the amount of money they’re donating? Apple has billions and billions on the bank, I assume people from Florida have spent several billions on Apple throughout the years. So Timmy is spending $ 5,- and use those free advertising??? Come on Apple be transparent and honest!
Imagine the whine-fest if Apple disclosed a very large amount. It would be dismissed as a PR stunt by the perpetually-unhappy-ragging-on-Apple crowd here.

It amounts to a damned if you do, damned if you don't, based on years of history.

Much better to stay quiet, imo. No need to brag. Apple doesn't need to.

Apple's determination to leave a better world than the one they found is why I'm proud to buy their products.

Sure, but you notice they don't say how much? It's still good PR, but most companies would be touting how much. I think it's more tactful this way. Otherwise it feels too self-promoting.
Apple can take all of PR they deserve as long as what they are doing ultimately helps someone.

Exactly! It’s one off the most stupid things someone can do. Be transparent and honest and don’t tweet it around the globe.
Dead wrong. It's a great way to motivate millions of Apple followers to follow in Apple's footsteps and make donations of their own.

Try not to be so cynical about Apple's motivations. It smells like projection.
