PayPal Debit Card Now Supports Apple Wallet With Up to 5% Cash Back

PayPal today announced that the PayPal Debit Card can now be added to the Apple Wallet app and used with Apple Pay in stores and online.

"Whether in-store, online or in-apps, PayPal debit card cardholders will be able to enjoy the convenience and security that Apple Pay brings to their everyday lives," said Apple's services chief Eddy Cue, in PayPal's press release.

PayPal Debit Card cardholders can now select a monthly category of spending, such as groceries, gas, or clothing, and receive 5% cash back on up to $1,000 in purchases in that category per month. Multiple cash back offers can be stacked.

The debit card can be used anywhere MasterCard is accepted. A new auto-reload option can automatically top up the card's linked PayPal account balance if it drops below a set amount, to ensure that the ability to spend is uninterrupted.

The advantage is the 5% cash back and for PayPal to sell your data (purchase habits)
That’s fine. My purchase habits will be that I buy lunch from my work cafeteria every day. Enjoy the data PayPal!

PayPal is pretty much dead to me.

Their debit card was great if you were an eBay seller back when they took PayPal - you could sell and use funds immediately.

Without eBay, and now that Venmo and Apple Cash have taken over for marketplace/personal transactions, I just don't see a use for PayPal. Not to mention random emails saying they stopped a transaction, which according to various reddit threads, almost seems like a ploy/scam from PayPal themselves.

Do they provide a list of categories?
* Dining
* Grocery
* Clothing
* Health and beauty
* Gas (including EV charging stations)

Also, you have to select your category each and every month, otherwise you won’t earn 5% cash back for that month.

With T-Mobile, at least, you can set a debit card for autopay, but still go in and pay it manually with a CC before the autopay date to get your 5% back.
Same case with AT&T

Do they provide a list of categories? Now that all cell companies make you use debit or bank accounts, getting 5% cash back for my bill would be nice

What's the advantage of a PayPal debit card? Do they normally charge a fee when you move money between your bank and your PayPal balance, so it's beneficial to keep money in PayPal if you use it a lot?
