The MacRumors Show: Talking Weird iPhone 17 'Slim' Rumors

On this week's episode of The MacRumors Show, we discuss all of the latest rumors about the iPhone 17 "Slim" – a whole new kind of iPhone coming next year.

The ‌iPhone 17‌ "Slim" is expected to sit above the iPhone 17 Pro Max in 2025's iPhone lineup with a starting price of approximately $1,299. The main selling point is said to be its all-new design touting a super-thin aluminium-titanium chassis and a relocated rear camera that could feature a variable aperture for the first time. It is expected to have a 6.6-inch display and Apple's custom 5G modem, and it may also feature up to 2TB of storage. Despite its high price point, the device is rumored to contain lower-end specifications than the ‌iPhone 17 Pro‌ models, such as a single rear camera, a standard A19 chip, and 8GB of memory.

We also discuss the iPhone 16 Pro's rumored Rose color option that looks set to replace Blue Titanium, Apple's progress on a clamshell foldable iPhone, and the fourth-generation iPhone SE, which is apparently set to hit mass production in October. The new low-cost iPhone is expected to feature an iPhone 14-like design with an OLED display and Face ID, a USB-C port, a single rear 48-megapixel camera, Apple's custom 5G modem, and the Action button.

How is this going to work?
Pay more for a thinner, but lower-specced phone?

With each new iPhone update rumor I’m glad I didn’t buy a 15PM. And kept tge 14PM.

Looks like the 16 will be a nothing burger as well. More of the same.

Insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting a different outcome.

Releasing identical iPhones year after year seems like insanity.

Honestly this take is really stupid at this point. What do you expect Apple to do? Turn it into a transformer?

Phones have long reached their peak and upgrades are only ever going to be minimal.

Your issue here is you upgrade every year, maybe stretch this out a bit? Then you’ll get your massive upgrades.

I upgraded to the 15 pro max from the 10. That’s a big jump.

Totally agreed on the insanity thing, but this is a you issue honestly. Stop buying every phone that comes out and just enjoy what you do have for a while longer. Insanity is YOU buying the same phone every year and expecting major jumps.

I've seen some places say it will cost less? Kind of a "minimal" iPhone.

I'm hanging on to my 13 Pro for the foreseeable future, either way.

How is this such an outlandish concept to many? Remember the MacBook Air reveal? It was a tech revolution, despite it being a less powerful product than others!

Smaller, thinner components require engineering, which means more expensive production processes and cutting other developed features.

Not every user needs Pro-everything. Some need lighter weight and thinner dimensions. If these aren’t compatible with a Pro camera/battery/processor yet, give the customers options. I'm here for it.
