Apple Watch's Track Detection Feature Expands to France and the Netherlands

Apple Watch's Running Track Detection feature has gone live in France and the Netherlands, according to French tech blog WatchGeneration.

Apple Watch Track Detection
With Track Detection, the Apple Watch uses an Apple Maps database and GPS to automatically detect when you step on to an outdoor running track.

In the Workout app, you can select which lane of the track you are running in and receive more accurate distance measurements and a more precise route map. There is also an option to receive lap alerts that show distance, time, and pace as you complete each lap.

The feature is available on Apple Watch models running watchOS 9.2 and later. watchOS 9.2 is compatible with the Apple Watch Series 4 and newer.

The function was first available in the United States last year, and in February it rolled out to Canada, Australia, Italy, and the United Kingdom. Apple has yet to update its regional feature support page to reflect the latest additions.

Release bike routes in the Netherlands already
ha ha ha ha ha this is Apple speaking: we started only in 2012 with Maps, so please give us some more time to cover more than 4 countries in 11 years....
we are a small start up company with only little money, that's why we simply tell everybody on our iPhones to use Goole Maps or other third party apps to use for cycling...

pffffff

oh and mind you, these 4 countries (Australia, China, Japan and USA) are known to be real bicycle friendly countries, unlike The Netherlands, where everybody from age of 4 is using a bicycle to go to school, work, friends & family and pubs....just imagine the amount of work which would go into implementing all the bike lanes of The Netherlands!!!

Such a HUGE country....
I never understood Apple's slowness of rolling out features like that. It's the same for every single service. I don't run on tracks so while being in France this isn't something I'm thrilled for.

That being said, this approach is completely baffling. Apple sells their products advertising for all thes features, only to realize half of them are US only. City maps are so slow to update they are just useless.

I realized only yesterday one "big" city near me was finally getting street view (or whatever Apple calls it). The issue is I've waited so long than I moved on to something else for this a long time ago. It's the same for every service. A pity.

PS: And don't say it's because it's tough, there are regulations, Apple is too small... It's time they get the hang of it and finally scale up to what they are advertising.

We feel you in Denmark. Everyone in big cities runs bikes a lot
indeed, I guess Denmark is very much like The Netherlands: small, but almost everybody is having/using a bike daily.
