Starting with the 14-inch MacBook Pro, you can get the 8-Core M1 Pro/512GB model for $1,799.00 in Silver, down from $1,999.00. This is a solid second-best price on the 14-inch MacBook Pro, and there's a slight shipping delay with estimated delivery of around July 22.

Anyone increasing SSD/Unified memory of M2 MacBook Air or 13” MacBook Pro should look at these options also. BTO prices of Air and 13” Pro come quite close to the 14” MacBook Pro model.

Make sure you're not just experiencing buyer's remorse. If there's a reason that you thought you needed 1TB/32GB for your work, and that reason is still valid, then keep the machine. The extra cost will be forgotten soon enough with the time saved. Wishing that you had more space/RAM can never be undone.

If you bought the extra SSD and RAM for 'future-proofing' then return that thing as fast as your legs will get you to the Apple store. Even the base spec machines are super powerful.

Future-proofing for RAM really doesn't make sense any more. By the time you get to a point where 16GB RAM doesn't serve you, you will probably want to update the CPU as well. And remember, with Apple silicon, each successive generation is going to have more dedicated compute units (neural engines, GPU, CPU cores, video encoders/decoders etc.). Just like we saw with the M1 iPad which does things no other iPad chip can do.
This was just what I needed to read friend. I definitely do not need this for any professional work as of now, more a personal purchase so I have no reason to upgrade and spend that extra $600. I went ahead and canceled my order and re-purchased the base model. If I need to buy a new computer in the next five years I'll just do it then similar to when I bought my 2017. I really appreciate the help!

I already regret taking back the base one for the 1TB/32GB model. More I think about it that $1800+269 AppleCare for that model is a a steal compared to $2500+269 for the upgraded storage and ram…maybe I’ll take it back

I think portability is something to consider for some people. I have used the 2017 12 inch MacBook for years - it has been my favorite laptop but obviously underpowered. It has served me very well as a wonderful portable work tool. Sadly its just too slow now. Also sadly the MacBook Air is .7lbs heavier but the 14 pro is another .8lbs heavier than that. If you travel A LOT convenience adds up. If the air's performance is still good then you're paying for portability. Don't forget that. Ideally I was hoping they would release a new version of the 12 inch with apple silicon. Reduced bezels would have gotten it close to 13inches. Oh well....
