Apple Attempts to Incentivize LG Smartphone Users to Switch to iPhone Following LG Handset Business Shutdown

Apple is now keen on utilizing LG's recent shutdown of its smartphone business by adding several flagship LG smartphones to its list of eligible Android devices that can be traded for credit towards a new iPhone purchase.

iPhone and LG V60 Swap Feature
Apple today added some LG smartphones to its list of devices eligible for trade-in towards a new iPhone, including the LG G8 ThinQ for up to $70, the LG V40 ThinQ for up to $65, the LG V50 ThinQ 5G for up to $125, and the latest LG V60 ThinQ 5G for as high as $180. Apple determines the exact value of the traded-in product depending on its condition, such as if it has scratches or dents and functions correctly.

All devices, regardless of brand or condition, can be traded in for free to Apple as part of the company's commitment to be environmentally friendly. A wide assortment of devices ranging from Blackberry to HTC phones can also be traded in for an Apple Store gift card.

Apple's trade-in program is meant to serve as an incentive to get users of other smartphone brands to switch to ‌iPhone‌ by offering them discounts on their purchase. Apple recently added the Pixel 4, Pixel 4a, Pixel 5, and Samsung Galaxy Note 20 to its list of eligible Android devices for ‌iPhone‌ credit trade-in.

Given you can buy a new LG V60 for $400 in Newegg ('https://www.newegg.com/lg-v60-thinq-5g-6-8-gsm-cdma-hspa-evdo-lte-5g-blue/p/23B-000F-00236?nm_mc=KNC-MSNSearch&cm_mmc=KNC-MSNSearch-_-Cell+Phone+-+Unlocked+Cell+Phones-_-LG+Mobile-_-9SIABPXD028157&source=region&msclkid=6df8c83d9e511c38dc79a8e11cfe85dd&Item=9SIABPXD028157'), I feel the $180 trade in value is pretty fair.

My V40 is still going strong and remains a great phone, that being said, any LG phone on the used market (Swappa, etc.) w/ a headphone jack and quad-dac is an absolutely bargain as a DAP (for those that care mainstream seems content with their wireless BT buds). You can pick up a 'new' or 'mint' V60 on Swappa for well under half of the 'listed retail price' (LG 'list' is a BS figure at this point anyway).

Right? This feels more like an insult to LG phone owners than an actual incentive to switch. Haha

Apple can bite me. $180 for my LG V60. A phone that still beats the iPhone 12.I was a loyal Apple user of the iPhone since day one. I switched to the LG V60 last year and have never regretted it. Apple is so far behind in being the leader. Look at all of the Android phones that kill the iPhone for a heck of a lot less.
Yes and no. I was an hardcore Android user for a long time, then jumped ship bc my wife and her fam have iPhones. I could never get an Android phone to last more than 2 years. Not the case with the iPhone. I tried a Note 10+ because I thought I would love to be back on Android, even my wife suggested it—and I didn’t make it 10 days before switching back.
