MacRumors Giveaway: Win a 7-in-1 USB-C Hub for Apple's Macs From Choetech

by

For this week's giveaway, we've teamed up with Choetech to offer MacRumors readers a chance to win one of Choetech's 7-in-1 USB-C Hubs designed to work with Apple's USB-C MacBook Pro and MacBook Air models.

Priced at under $30, Choetech's USB-C hub plugs into two of the ports on a ‌MacBook Air‌ or a ‌MacBook Pro‌, adding port options that are no longer available on Apple's notebooks.

The 7-in-1 USB-C Hub features a Thunderbolt 3 port that supports power input up to 100W, offering up to 87W of passthrough charging while also supporting connected peripherals, up to 40Gb/s data transfer speeds, and the option to connect up to a 5K display at 60Hz.

It also features a 4K HDMI port that supports 4K displays, a USB-C port (for data transfer), two USB-A ports, a microSD card reader, and an SD card reader.

The hub has a simple design, plugging into the side of a ‌MacBook Air‌ or ‌MacBook Pro‌. It's made from a silver gray aluminum that is meant to match Apple's notebooks. The hub weighs 1.4 ounces and tucks neatly into a backpack or bag, so it works while on the go or at a desk at home.

According to Choetech, the USB-C hub is compatible with the 2016 and later ‌MacBook Pro‌ and the 2018 and 2019 ‌MacBook Air‌ models.

Dongles for the ports we told you were not needed.

You are not getting it. Apple tells you what you need. When it doesn't work out someone will sell you a fix.

I entered

This kind of hubs will very likely bend the ports in your MacBook which might result in replacing whole motherboard at the Apple Store. I'd pass this one if I were you guys.
Apple feels confident enough to sell them in stores, so I'm confident enough to buy them.

I entered the giveaway, but this is sold at a very good price to begin with. I might buy one anyway.

This looks just like the adapter ('https://satechi.net/collections/usb-type-c/products/aluminum-type-c-pro-hub-adapter-for-2016-macbook-pro-13-and-15-40gbs-thunderbolt-3-4k-hdmi-pass-through-charging-sd-micro-card-reader-and-2-usb-3-0-ports') I bought from Satechi awhile ago.

Is this just a knock-off by Cheotech ?
More likely just a rebranding of a hub made by a single factory that slaps the internal components into a variety of slightly different cases and silkscreens them with the names of countless companies. If you search Alibaba for "USB C Hub 7-in-1," you will find dozens of them that are nearly identical to those sold by Satechi.

Yes.

Aside from dongles and older laptops, there's Windows machines.

Apple WILL NOT backpedal on this. I wish they would, but they made the decision and will stick to it for the foreseeable future. The industry's been catching up too, so eventually it'll be moot.

I think the ship-jumpers swam away already.
But the BRAND NEW iPhoneSE still comes with a USB-A cable. Apple is behind on its own push for USB-C!

Let's see, my mouse and keyboard are bluetooth. I have a yubikey that is usb-c. I have a monitor with 4 usb-c plugs in the back. My ethernet is attached via a usb-c converter. I rarely use the memory stick I have but that's usb-c. I do have an external hard drive that is USB-A but I have a tiny USB-C converter on it and when I do use it (mostly use cloud) it's not a problem. My iPhone has a USB-C charger.

Life is easier for me and my only complaint is that lightning is still used and we didn't go full usb-c.
