UPS Working to Expedite iPhone 7 Deliveries Following Weather and Mechanical Delays

iphone-ups-logoYesterday, we reported that some iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus shipments have experienced irregular movement or delays during delivery between China or South Korea and their final destinations in the United States.

UPS has since confirmed to MacRumors that a small number of deliveries were impacted due to a mechanical problem and weather delay, while it is still investigating the reason for erroneous tracking notices.

UPS experienced a mechanical problem on one flight and a weather delay on another flight containing iPhones. The cargo was redirected, but not in time to avoid minor delays in residential deliveries of these packages. None of the phones were returned to their origin or routed on extraneous legs of the journey to their final destination.

We are still investigating the reason for the erroneous tracking notices. When the packages receive their next physical scan at a UPS facility, the ups.com tracking information will be updated to reflect the next planned delivery date. UPS is working to expedite these deliveries as rapidly as possible. The updated delivery date may be improved and another status update posted. To be informed of latest status, consumers can request text or email notification by selecting the “Notify me with Updates” feature when tracking their shipment on ups.com.

Apple began accepting iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus pre-orders on September 9, and it took less than 20 minutes for supplies of popular models to begin selling out. iPhone 7 Plus and Jet Black models have been most constrained, but some customers originally quoted October to November delivery dates for Jet Black iPhone 7 Plus models have seen their orders ship sooner than expected.

No mention of the idiots working at UPS making stuff up as they went along to lie to the customers?
Perhaps if people didn't act as if their life were coming to an end due to a phone shipment delay they wouldn't lie to you about it. If I were on the other end I would probably lie as well if some mouth breather was screaming at me over a stupid phone. I wonder if some of you here actually get out much and interact with the world.

Yeah not buying that. "Severe weather" when the weather reporting services all say it's in the mid-70s and clear?

Mine is still saying they can't figure out a delivery time. Yet the delivery planner shows yesterday is when it was arriving. Apple: how about finding a carrier that can do this right? My 6+ was a mess like this too.

Here's my tracking as of a minute ago:

This is why I don't bother calling in, not like calling and bitching is going to make the phone magically get from China any faster. I've been tracking it, hoping it comes sooner than it has but calling and complaining and saying the sky is falling and if Steve were alive this wouldn't happen etc won't fix the issue, I'm sure Apple is aware of the issues without people clogging up the customer service lines as they have access to much more detailed tracking information than we have.
Speaking for myself - I did not take my frustration out on the UPS Customer Service person: It's not THEIR fault, they're just trying to help. Much like I do not penalize the server who brings me an improperly cooked meal.

Treat them with kindness and respect as they are just performing their job. Put the President of UPS on the line and I'd really unload on him - he's ultimately responsible for the performance of UPS and he has to earn that salary!
Rational behavior is hard to find around here when it comes to launch day. I remember reading threads where people were calling UPS to check the status of the flight itself, never made a bit of sense to me. My wife's iPhone 7 was delayed by a day (they said they couldn't find my house, they deliver every other day), but they showed up Saturday, thanked the guy and he was on his way as were we. It just makes me cringe thinking people love material things so much they will treat other people like trash when every single expectation is not met ... mind boggling. Glad you two are rational!

I wouldn't give up yet. I'm in NJ and got the same weather notification. Up until less than an hour ago, my tracking looked the same and now it's out for delivery.

I've been following he issues with UPS and the iPhone 7's for a few days now and one thing I've learned is that UPS has no idea what's going on. They don't communicate with each other and you need to take what each rep says with a grain of salt. In fact, I would trust Apple's email over a UPS customer service rep any day. I wouldn't doubt yours will update soon.
