T-Mobile today announced that it is once again partnering with Major League Baseball, this time to give all T-Mobile customers a free one-year subscription to the MLB.TV Premium service. This is the third year in a row T-Mobile has partnered up with Major League Baseball, and this year's giveaway is in celebration of three more years of partnership.

"For the last three years MLB has been with us every step of the way as we have re-written the rules of wireless. This year we're doubling down - and expanding the relationship even further to include the Home Run Derbies and free MLB.TV for customers," said John Legere, president and CEO of T-Mobile. "This isn't just some corporate sponsorship. It's the combined effort of two passionate teams bringing even more amazing perks and game-changing moves to baseball fans over the next three years!"

T-Mobile Simple Choice customers on qualifying plans are able to sign up for a full MLB.TV Premium subscription valued at $109.99 starting on April 3. To get the discount, customers will need to subscribe using the T-Mobile network.

The service will allow T-Mobile subscribers to watch 2,430 out-of-market regular season games live on their T-Mobile devices. It will take advantage of T-Mobile's BingeOn feature, so streaming MLB content on a device connected to the T-Mobile network will not count against data caps. MLB.TV Premium is available on Macs, iOS devices, the Apple TV, and a number of other consoles and set-top boxes.

Also included is a free premium subscription to MLB.com At Bat, something T-Mobile has given away in past years.

(Thanks, Asa!)

Ugh....out of market games only. It'd be awesome to catch Astros games while out and about live. Root Sports doesn't have that option on Comcast.

I hear you and I'd love that option as well but local games has never been available directly through MLBTV. Many sports are blacked out locally on digital platforms due to the very lucrative and restrictive existing licensing contracts with RSN's. This isn't new information.

If you're a baseball fan, why not get the free account and keep an eye on other teams you might be battling it out with come October? The account gives you access on your computer as well where you can use a VPN or Hola Unblocker to get around the blackout restriction.
I understand the situation very well, and it's been a point of contention for me for a long, long time. There was a time that doesn't seem that long ago that I could watch my local baseball team on free, commercially supported television. Now every baseball team in America is behind a paywall called cable/satellite, (that also has commercials) and I refuse to play that game. I was disgusted this past October to learn that the entire MLB playoff season before the World Series was restricted to pay television. Enough is enough.

I would gladly pay MLB $130 a year for a streaming package if it included local market games. I'd even accept watching the regional sports channel's commercials on the stream. But I am finished paying for a cable/satellite subscription in order to watch a local team whose stadium I am paying for.

And is this video throttled down to 480p like the other Binge services?
I gotta tell you on my iPhone 6s Plus you can't even tell. I'll take it for no data usage.

You guys are right - it doesn't hurt to ask (as you've demonstrated). I've sent off an email to their support desk... hopefully I'll have as good of luck as you guys did!

Follow-up: Yup, they're giving me a refund! Now I just have to wait for April 3... I have been watching a few spring training games, but for $109 I can just listen on the radio.
